For the 6th edition of the global movement 36 Days of Type, I set out to merge two of my greatest sources of inspiration: music and 3D art.
The challenge was to transform each letter of the alphabet into a musical instrument, using the first letter of its name as a starting point. From the beginning, I discovered how each letter could support, structure, embrace, and sustain the elements that make sound possible, strings, keys, necks, resonating chambers, and air passages.
While it would be surprising if any of these letters could actually produce sound in reality, I find it fascinating that, at their core, letters in the Western alphabet were created as visual representations of sounds that travel through space and, like music, help us communicate and understand the world.
